If you already have an inbox somewhere else, we can copy your old messages into your Noiseyard mailbox for you. It is a copy, so nothing is deleted at the old provider.
To start it:
Go to Site Management, then Mailbox.
Click Copy emails, under Mailbox Settings (the Bring emails into this mailbox card).
Check Email address to copy from: the address you sign in to your old mailbox with. We fill in your new address, because it is usually the same. Change it if you sign in with a different one. If your domain had no email before Noiseyard, the field starts empty: type the address of the account your old emails are in, for example your Gmail address.
Enter the Mail server (IMAP). We fill it in when your domain's mail is at Google, iCloud, Zoho Mail (US), GoDaddy, Namecheap Private Email, Hostinger or Rackspace (the service behind Bandzoogle's email), and when you type a Gmail, iCloud or Yahoo address. For anything else, see Finding your old mail server below.
Enter the password of your old mailbox and click Start Copying. The window then says the copy has started, and you can close it: the copy keeps going in the background, and the button reads Copying in progress... until it is done. When it finishes, the page shows Email copy complete.
Your folders come across as well, so the copy should look like your old mailbox when it finishes. Contacts and calendars are not copied.
If your old mail is at Google (Gmail or Google Workspace)
Google only lets other services in with an app password, so your usual Google password will not work here:
Sign in to the Google account that holds your old mail and open myaccount.google.com/apppasswords. If Google says app passwords are not available, turn on 2-Step Verification first (Google Account, then Security) and open the link again.
Type a name such as Noiseyard and click Create. Google shows a password of 16 letters.
Paste it into the copy window as the Google app password. The server is imap.gmail.com.
On Google Workspace, whoever manages the account can switch app passwords off. If Google will not create one, ask them, or reply to any Noiseyard email.
If your old mail is at iCloud
A domain in iCloud Mail shares one mailbox with your iCloud address, so you sign in with your iCloud Mail address (it ends in @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com), never the address at your domain. You also need an app-specific password: create one at account.apple.com under Sign-In and Security. The server is imap.mail.me.com. The copy brings everything in that iCloud mailbox, including mail sent to your other iCloud addresses.
If your old mail is at Zoho Mail
Zoho allows this copy on its paid plans, once IMAP access is on: in Zoho Mail, go to Settings, Mail Accounts, and tick IMAP Access. The same page shows your server name under Server Configuration Details (for accounts in Zoho's US data centre it is imappro.zoho.com). If you sign in to Zoho with two-factor authentication, use an app-specific password.
If your old mail is at Yahoo
Yahoo also needs an app password: on your Yahoo Account Security page, under External connections, click Create app password, then paste it into the Copy emails window as the Yahoo app password. The server is imap.mail.yahoo.com.
If your old mail is at Microsoft (Microsoft 365, Outlook.com, Hotmail) or Proton Mail
None of these lets this copy sign in: Microsoft does not accept passwords from other services (Outlook.com and Hotmail stopped in 2024), and Proton only lets its own Bridge app on your computer read your mail. Contact us and we will help you with your options.
Finding your old mail server
It is your old provider's IMAP server, also called the incoming server. Search the web for your provider's name and "IMAP settings", or open the old account's settings in the mail app on your phone or computer. Use the provider's own server name, such as imap.provider.com: a name at your own domain, such as mail.yourband.com, may lead to Noiseyard once your mailbox exists. Bandzoogle's email uses secure.emailsrvr.com.
If your domain only forwarded its mail (for example with ImprovMX), there is no old mailbox to copy: the mail it passed on is already in the inbox it forwarded to.
If your usual password does not work
If your old account uses two-step sign-in, most providers (Google, iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail, Zoho and others) want an app password for a copy like this one instead of your usual password. Your provider's help pages show how to make one. Some providers also keep IMAP switched off until you turn it on in the old mailbox's settings.
Please note that:
Do the copy before you switch your domain's mail over, if your domain still receives mail at the old provider.
Keep your old account for a few days after the switch, then click Copy emails once more. Mail sent during the change can still land at the old provider, and copying again only adds what is not in your Noiseyard mailbox yet.
A big mailbox takes a while. It keeps going in the background, so you can close the page.
Your mailbox has 10 GB. If your old mailbox is bigger than that, clear out the largest attachments at the old provider first.
If the copy stops with an error, check the old email address, the server and the password (an app password, if your account uses two-step sign-in), and that the old mailbox allows sign-in from other apps (IMAP). Then start it again.
