Groups help you sort the people on your mailing list, for example your VIPs, your press contacts or the fans from one city. A member can be in as many groups as you like. Groups are only for you: your fans never see them.
You find them in your control panel under Newsletter, on the Groups page. There are two kinds.
Automatic groups
These three groups are made and kept up to date by us, from the sales on your website:
Music buyer: members who bought a digital album or track.
Merch buyer: members who bought something from your store.
Music & merch buyer: members who bought both. They are in the other two groups as well.
We match a sale to a member by the email address used at checkout. A fan who bought with a different address than the one on your list is not counted. Tips do not count, and a fully refunded purchase stops counting. Sales from before groups existed count too.
You cannot rename, delete or edit the automatic groups. To see who is in one, click View members → on its row. The Purchase history column of your member list shows the same thing for each member.
Your own groups
To make a group, open the Groups page and click Create group. Give it a name of up to 50 characters, then click Create. Each group needs its own name. You can also create one from your member list: open the Group filter and choose Create group at the bottom of the list.
Adding members to a group
Open your Member List and tick the members you want to add.
Click Manage Groups above the list.
Tick the group, then click Save Changes.
For a single member, you can also click the three dots at the end of their row and choose Manage groups. Untick a group in the same window to take members out of it.
When you select several members, a dash in a box means only some of them are in that group. Click it once to put all of them in, and once more to take all of them out. A group you leave as it is keeps exactly the members it had.
You can also make a new group in that window. Click + New group, type a name and click Add. The new group is created when you click Save Changes.
Seeing who is in a group
On the Groups page, click a group's row. Your member list opens with only that group's members. In your member list you can also use the Group and Purchase filters, and the Group column shows every member's groups. When a member is in more groups than fit, you see something like +2 more. Point at it to see the rest.
When you download your member list, the file has a Group column and a Purchase history column too.
Sending a newsletter to a group
When you click Send, or Schedule in the Send button's menu, we first ask who should receive the newsletter. Keep All members to send it to everyone. To send it to some groups only, pick Choose audience, click Continue, then click the groups you want. You can also search for a city or a country and pick it.
A member gets the newsletter when they are in any of the groups you picked and in any of the locations you picked. The window shows how many members will receive it. Groups without members are not shown.
A scheduled newsletter goes to the members who are in its audience when it is sent. If you later click Send to new members on the Sent page, only new members of the same audience get it.
Renaming or deleting a group
On the Groups page, click the three dots at the end of the group's row and choose Rename group or Delete group. To delete several groups at once, tick them and click Delete above the list. Deleting a group never deletes its members. They stay on your mailing list. A newsletter you scheduled for that group will not go to its members anymore.
